The history:
The members of the Swanborough Research Team
felt it would be an appropriate and wonderful thing to bring the
Swanborough family back together in Wiltshire, England. Where better
to meet than our medieval meeting site of Swanborough
Tump, the meeting place of the
Hundred of Swanborough during the Anglo Saxon period in the Middle
Ages. The pillar marking the site is located 2 miles from Pewsey, 6
miles from All Cannings, and 11 miles from Stonehenge. So in the last
weekend of July 2000, the first worldwide reunion of the Swan* Family
was held. The youngest attendee was 3 and the eldest was 87, one
woman travelled from Scotland who had been baptised in the All Saints
Church in All Cannings. Family came from Scotland, Wales,
England, America, South Africa and Australia. The family in New
Zealand sent their family history for display at the reunion site.
The plans:
On July
22-24, 2005 the 2nd
reunion of the worldwide family will be based out of
Bouverie
Hall in
Pewsey
where we gathered in 2000. Program details are being finalized now and
will include a trip to the Tump where the plaque
commemorating our first reunion in 500 years can be seen as well as a
visit to our family church and village.
A special church service for Reunion Sunday afternoon has once again been arranged at the All Saints Church in All Cannings to pay honor to the ancestors who worked so hard to provide their children a better life. Rev. Sally Attwater will once again be doing the church service. We can trace church records back to the late 1500's for our ancestors as they were married, baptised and buried there in the church. There will be ringing of the church bells to tell the world we've come back.
